Mike Thompson

From childhood, Mike was raised around the Carpet business. His father, Art Thompson, ran design and manufacturing for four different carpet mills during his career. Mike worked in carpet mills during summer vacations from the age of 16. This background came in handy when he decided to sell for the worlds largest carpet mill, Shaw Industires, Inc. in 1984. Within five years, Mike was promoted to District Manager in St. Louis and a few years later to Zone Manager for a specialty line the company introduced. It was in this position that he made use of his BS in education becoming one of the top trainers for the line.

In 1996, Mike went to work for the Area Rug Division of Shaw where he directed the sales of a large sales force and trained both wholesale and retail rug salespeople. Mike's sales philosophy is to define the customer's needs by asking good questions and listening. Mike left Shaw in 2000 to establish The Rug Rack with his wife and business partner, Miriam.

Miriam Thompson

Miriam has an extensive background in art, fashion and home interiors. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Art/Fashion Merchandising. Soon after graduation, she developed an interest in window coverings. She ran her own business from home while raising three children from 1984 through 2000 when she and Mike opened The Rug Rack. From conceptualizing custom designs for each application, to fabrication, to supervising installation, Miriam's expertise became obvious.

Her background with color and design is invaluable to the partnership at the store and brings a unique knowledge base you won't find elsewhere. Customers soon realize they have a true professional helping to coordinate area rugs with existing fabrics and colors. If The Rug Rack doesn't have the best rug for your needs on display, odds are, Miriam will know where to find it.
